Famed for his energy-infused house music sets, Kevin Ruiz is undoubtedly the clubber's choice DJ. In Manila's clubbing circle, his name conjures unforgettable memories of wicked nights that stretched well into daytime at clubs that he played in across the metro.
What punctuates Kevin's style is his innovative fashion in mixing. On the floor, where it really matters, Kevin creates a magical set that morphs as the crowd mood changes. Revered by all true clubbers and respected by all reputable DJs in Manila, Kevin's craft at mixing extends beyond just making people dance. Kevin has also worked at music research, design and composition with the country's top fashion directors such as Robbie Carmona.
Aside from being skilled in playing all forms of house music, Kevin also has extensive background in drum & bass, hip-hop, and reggae. Combining dance versions of contemporary/pop music with more underground innovative styles, Kevin both entertains and educates playing alternative versions of mainstream tunes. He prefers playing marathon sets incorporating various styles of music into one concentrated performance.
His fourteen years of solid experience in DJing originates in New Jersey where he lived for 18 years. During the 90's, Kevin spent his weekends at New York's Twilo, Vinyl (now Arc), Palladium, Tunnel and Limelight listening to Danny Tenaglia and Junior Vasquez. Kevin's immersion in the New York club scene has given him unrivalled insight into where club music has been, and more importantly, where it's headed.
Shortly after moving to Manila in 1998, he became resident DJ at ABG's where he met people who shared the same passion he has for house music. Not long after ABG's closed down in 1999, Kevin found a new residency at seveneightorange where, for three tremendous years, he mesmerized Manila and developed a loyal following for his late night marathon sets. His fame and glory reached the borders of Cebu, Iloilo, Boracay and Bacolod where he is everyone's favorite until this day.
After his club residencies, Kevin remained to be one of the most sought after talents in the Philippines, often asked to play at special events, grand openings, celebrity parties, fashion shows, outdoor festivities, bars, and clubs across the Philippines. Looking ahead, this young and dynamic DJ's DJ will continue to shape and influence Manila's music scene.
